Henry Forbes was the Director of Museums in Liverpool, England and
was a renowned naturalist in the latter half of the 19th Century. His
work on monkeys was scientific, yet popular and contained accurate, colorful
prints. He was scathing about the century’s other well-known work
about monkeys, Jardine’s. He writes that Jardine’s illustrations
were "comic natural history" and "caricatures"! |
