Information

Australia’s mammals are most unusual in that a large proportion of them are marsupials. These carry their young in a pouch. A lesser proportion are the even more remarkable Monotremes or egg-laying mammals.
Mr Lydekker was a renowned naturalist who was one of the first authorities on marsupials and monotremes. At the time of producing his studies, zoologists knew little about the habits of these animals and he hoped his work would encourage further study of them.
