Louis Van Houtte was a famous nineteenth century Belgian horticulturalist. He engaged plant collectors and botanists to bring back attractive plants from around the world then illustrated many of the most beautiful in his celebrated work Flora of the Glass Houses & Gardens of Europe. Van Houtte wrote that the aim of this work was to "describe and illustrate the rarest and most excellent plants which have been bought to Europe in recent times." This is a genuine antique not a reproduction. |
