Information

This CD contains high quality scans of 42 original antique prints from Henry Noel Humphrey's British Butterflies. The prints were over 155 years old and had very attractive original hand coloring.

These prints are particularly decorative as they feature the butterflies on the wild flowers and plants they inhabit.

Print method

The prints were lithographs (i.e. printed with ink on stone) and then had superb coloring applied by hand. The paper was a light cream color and varied a little in shading from print to print.

Condition

Very good condition. There was little if any foxing.

Size

The prints measured approximately 11¼ by 8½ inches (28.5 by 21.5 cm)
