| Information |
The scans on this CD were made from original antique prints from a work by William Rhind. William Rhind was a prominent Victorian botanist who lectured in Botany in Aberdeen, Scotland. J.Bishop and William Fitch were his illustrators. Fitch had an incredible ability in dealing with complex botanical structures. Sir Joseph Hooker paid many tributes to "the incomparable botanical artist" with "his unrivalled skill in seizing the natural character of a plant", also saying "I don’t think that Fitch could make a mistake in his perspective or outline." According to Wilfred Blunt, in his authoritative, Art Of Botanical Illustration, “Fitch remains the most outstanding botanical artist of his day in Europe.” |
Date |
The prints were from the 1860s |
| Print method |
