This CD contains 40 highly detailed scans of original 200 year old engravings of mammals by George Shaw. They are from the first edition of one of George Shaw's work on zoology, published in 1801. They are beautifully illustrated animals, perfect for incorporating in your artwork. George Shaw (1751-1813) was a notable English botanist and zoologist. Shaw was a initially a medical practitioner. He became the assistant lecturer in botany at Oxford University and keeper of the natural history department at the British Museum. He was a co-founder of the Linnean Society was a fellow of the Royal Society. He is also well known these days for the colored prints of animals he published in the Naturalists Miscellany with Mr. Nodder. |

The prints were copper plate engravings. |
Condition |
The prints were in very good condition. There was slight foxing/aging on a few of them, mainly on the edge of the paper, which we have tidied up in our graphics software. |

The prints measured approximately 6 by 9 inches (15 by 23 cm) |
