Information

These scans are of antique prints of prize poultry from W.B. Tegetmeier's "The Poultry Book", illustrated by Harrison Weir who "poured out a lifetime of devotion to English poultry" (Norris, Books on Poultry and Cock-Fighting). The color printing was done by the Leighton Brothers in London. Leighton Brothers are also known as the printers and publishers of the Illustrated London News between 1858 and 1885

Antique prints of poultry are popular to this day and look really great in kitchens.

Date

Published in London in 1868

Print method

The color prints are chromolithographs (i.e. different stone blocks were used to print each color).

The uncolored prints are wood engravings.

Condition

The prints the scans were made from were in very good condition. There is speck or two of foxing on a few of the prints

Size

Each print scanned measured approximately 11" by 7" (28 cm by 18 cm)
