The Reverend Frances Orpen Morris was well known for his passion for natural history and devoted his leisure time to a series of works on the birds, butterflies and moths of Britain. Each print from his work on butterflies features one species of butterfly. Kirby's work on butterflies is well known to this day and the butterflies and moths are shown on the plants they typically inhabit.
The antique prints the scans were were in excellent condition. The Morris prints were 10.3 inches by 7 inches (26.5 cm by 18 cm). The Kirby prints were 10.3 by 8.5 inches (26.5cm by 21.5 cm)
