Exercise of The Horse Plate 3
$50 - order #2954

(There is a 1/2" tear in the lower right corner that can be covered when framing)

Information

Francis Grose entered the army early in life and served in the cavalry, infantry and militia. He had a profound knowledge of antiquities and spent the greater part of his life collecting them. Grose was a sort of antiquarian Falstaff - at least he possessed in a striking degree the knight’s physical peculiarities. His humour, varied knowledge and good nature made him a favourite in society. He was well known for his inability to handle money, and turned, in a moment of penury, to military antiquarianism, his passion. He produced some absolutely fascinating and attractive engravings on subjects such as ancient artillery, fortification, armour, and weapons.

Collectors of fine rare prints will know how hard it is to find engravings like these.
