Information

Prints in this series by Rhind are superbly drawn and fascinating as they portray many well known, useful exotic plants.

William Rhind was a prominent Victorian botanist who lectured in Botany in Aberdeen, Scotland.

J.Bishop and William Fitch were his illustrators. Fitch had an incredible ability in dealing with complex botanical structures. Sir Joseph Hooker paid many tributes to "the incomparable botanical artist" with "his unrivalled skill in seizing the natural character of a plant", also saying "I don’t think that Fitch could make a mistake in his perspective or outline." According to Wilfred Blunt, in his authoratative, Art Of Botanical Illustration, “Fitch remains the most outstanding botanical artist of his day in Europe.”

This is a genuine antique not a reproduction.
