Information	This is an original antique engraving with original hand coloring and is over 148 years old. It is from Genera des Coléoptères d' Europe, a work by Jacquelin Du Val, and Jules Migneaux. Du Val and Migneaux were members of the Entomological Society of France and established their reputations with their work on the insects of Cuba. Claus Nissen (Zoological Book Illustrations) describes Genera des Coléoptères d' Europe as "a rare and fundamental treatise on Coleoptera" (beetles). To give you an idea of their rarity, very few sets of these engravings are available on the world market (we could find only 3 such sets at time of writing). A set is advertised by Pemberley Books in the UK for US $4000, and that is in a foxed condition.
Print method	Engraving with original hand coloring. The hand coloring is top quality and the colors are enhanced with a glossy finish of shellac.
Condition	The colors are fresh and bright. The paper is a light creamy white color. There is some scattered foxing on some of these prints. It It is in the margins of the paper well away from the image area.
Size	Approximately 10.5 by 6.75 inches (26.5 by 17 cm)
