This is an antique engraving by Jonathan Couch.
It was made in 1877, has hand painted colouring and is in excellent condition.
Couch was a Cornish doctor with many interests. This engraving is from his most notable work, "A History of the Fishes of the British Islands". it was the first ever work with colour illustrations of fish found in British waters. The engravings were based on his paintings of recently caught fish.
