Benjamin Barton published a work about British medicinal plants in the 1870s. By then, most people had forgotten how useful many plants were.
For example, Horton described how to use Foxglove flowers. This was well understood in the 16th century, then forgotten. Did you know we use foxgloves to treat heart conditions nowadays? The drug digitalis is derived from them.
It's interesting to find out about these plants from Barrton's fascinating chromolithographs.
