North America

This stunning lithograph is from the first edition (made in 1971 and limited to 500) of "Some Birds and Mammals of North America" by Axel Amuchastegui. All the original plates sold on the first day they were first shown in London in 1970. The quality of the lithographic printing is as good as anything we have seen. Each print is signed in the plate by Axel. They are excellent value considering their beauty, size, excellent condition and rarity. Axel was was born in 1921 in Cordoba, Argentina, and was a self taught artist. He loved nature and developed a unique technique for nature painting using Chinese inks and watercolors. There is now a tremendous appreciation for his art and he is considered one of the great wildlife illustrators of the 20th century. Argentina has based postage stamps on his pictures.
