Definition: A blind stamp is a colorless impression that is embossed without ink onto a print.
It is a distinguishing mark for the artist or owner.
Blind stamps are usually quite unobtrusive, although careful inspection may reveal quite a decorative image. They are occasionally seen on the covers and spines of books, especially older ones.
Here are some photographs of blind stamps.

Hi Sharon,
I don't think so. Regrettably we are not proud owners of a drawing by Van Gogh otherwise we'd double check !
Kind regards

I have an antique print of a beautiful portrait drawing done by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres dated 1816 in Rome. This has the blind stamp on the lower left edge that says “Cercle Librairie Estampes” with the initials “HVN” in the center of a rectangle shape. The top edge has the following words " L'Edition d'Arte. H. Piazza et C.ie Paris. R. Dunthorne, Londres. C

I have a Jose Orozco ink copperplate sketch with a blind-stamp that I'm unsure of. I think it is likely the Mexican cooperative known as Taller Grafica" in Mexico City. The stamp on our print looks like a capital T in a circle with the T located on the right side of the circle and what looks like a G that covers the rest inside the circle of the stamp. However both are quite faint, at least in the photos I've taken. Does anyone know what the Taller Grafica blind-stamp looks like?

Hi Robert, that sounds interesting. We have not seen that blind stamp before. You may wish to try a google image search in which you upload your photo to google as a file, and it tries to find similar ones.

Hi Leonard, Domenico Anderson (1854-1938) was an Italian photographer. His fatehr was a pioneer of photography, James Anderson (1813-1877). He inherited and continued the James' activities in Rome. It would be best to seek advise on a forum dedicated to old photos and photographic works. We specialise in antique prints rather than photographs. All the best
Hello there.
I recently bought an old black and white lithograph titled THE COMPETITORS by William Henry Hamilton TROOD. . It has a notation at top right that it was published 1st July 1884 by Dowdeswell and Dowdeswells, 133 New Bond Street & 36 Chancery Lane, Copyright registered. Also, at the bottom left of print is a BLIND STAMP & within the round stamp is TIC with Printsellers Association surrounding the letters.
Mr Trood has also signed his name in pencil, just after the Blind Stamp. The only other notations are the very small point script noting the names/attributes of the 9 adorable pups, which are written in a horizontal row except for the last 2 names, Sleepiness is set lower & Envy is set higher..I mention this as there is no title on the paper. I found the title of the print from an image at Case Antiques from a coloured version with the names/attributes placed in an up and down fashion with only 8 listed ( Envy is the pup in the basket at far right). My copy is very similar to a copy that was was sold by Christie's of Paris in 2012, although their catalogue image does not show the complete paper. I bought this item in Brisbane Australia 2 days ago & it does have a small amount of dry ,light brown spotting on the white surrounds from high humidity in our sub tropical climate, it does not appear on the white fur of the pups. It appears to be in it's original timber frame.
Could this possibly be an early proof copy & I wonder what it's value today would be should I offer it for sale ? ( hopefully to someone somewhere in London where it was lovingly created).
I would appreciate any information that you may be able to offer.....Regards, Warren.
Hi Warren, thanks for the info. Coloured and black and white versions may have been made. It could be worth bit by the sounds of it. We'd need to do some research and see pictures to value it.
