Discover antique botanical prints.

Botanical illustration has been an important art form for centuries. Illustrating plants' colour and detail is a beautiful blend of art and science.

Botanical illustration reached a peak of popularity in about 1600 to 1900. This was an exciting era of exploration and discovery. Crew members often included botanists, plant collectors and commercial gardeners. They wanted to bring new plants back to Europe to study, display and sell. For example, Sir Joseph Banks accompanied Captain Cook's first voyage in 1769.

Botanical prints were made to record discoveries and inform a wide audience about the plants.

Botanical art one is still of the most popular types of home decor.
