Chaffers - Chrysomela Beetles (II)

This engraving is from a wonderful work on beetles by Thomas Martyn (1735-1825), and was made in London in 1793. The set it is from was titled "The English Entomologist, exhibiting all the Coleopterous Insects found in England" and featured the first illustrations of many beetle species. This is an original antique, not a reproduction. It was made using the technique of stipple engraving and is in excellent condition. The paper is creamy white and the hand painted coloring is well done.
