Charles Crombie was born in 1880 at Dumfries, Scotland. By 1901 Charles was working as a sculptor and artist. He specialised in cartoons and illustrations. His collection of 24 humorous cartoons "The Rules Of Golf" was first published by the bottled water company Perrier in 1906, and rapidly became a best-selling series. Other similar sporting themes (including The Rules Of Cricket) followed with equal success.
