Charles Robert Bree (1811 - 1886) was a medical practioner and zoologist. His passion for birds drove him to become a renowned ornithologist.
The illustrations of birds in his works are superb. The reason is Bree employed an excellent painter and draughtsman - Benjamin Fawcett.
A renowned perfectionist, Fawcett was one of the best at color printing from woodblocks. He mastered every step: painting birds; engraving wooden printing blocks; mixing and matching colors; and hand painting the engraved prints with with rich colours.
Here are some of the engravings for you to choose from. They are beautiful, genuine antiques from the 1860s.
