David Roberts (1796 - 1864) was a Scottish painter. Roberts started work as a house painter. He then became a successful painter of theatre scenery. After this, he turned to fine art.
He specialized in architectural and landscape subjects. His high reputation was well established by the time he arrived in Egypt and the Holy Land in 1838.
His work," The Holy Land" is one of the greatest sets of travel illustrations ever created. It had over 200 views of scenery, people and places. His lithographs have inspired many to visit the sites he portrayed so evocatively.
Here are some of his lithographs for you to choose from. They are genuine antiques.
