Victorian decorative arts used fern motifs everywhere. This craze for ferns was even given a name " Pteridomania", meaning "Fern Mania."

Ferns were not studied much until about 1830. This made them a great source of new discoveries. Many naturalists hunted worldwide for ferns. Victorian artists and printmakers created excellent engravings and lithographs of ferns.
