Fimbriated Tortoise and Hawks Bill Turtle

Paper Size: 24 x 15 cm (9.5 x 6 inches)

Testudo fimbria and Testudo imbricata

This exquisitely detailed copper plate engraving is from a rare set published in London by John Mason Good between 1806 and 1813 titled Pantologia. Many were by Sydenham Edwards, a multi-talented gentleman also well known for his superb botanical illustrations, classical garden designs and his design of the Crystal Palace in London.

The paper is high quality, matt paper with a subtle creamy tone and slight texture. The hand painted coloring is bright and uses a beautiful range of colors. It is in excellent condition.
