Francis Grose (1731 - 1791) was an English antiquary, draughtsman, and lexicographer. He served in the cavalry, infantry and militia. His humour, wide knowledge and good nature made him a favourite in society.
He became an expert on antiquities and spent most of his life collecting them. Military antiquities were his passion. His work "Military Antiquities" included engravings of ancient artillery, fortification, armour and weapons.
Here are some of his engravings for you to choose from. They are genuine antiques made in 1812.
