George Vernon Hudson (1867–1946) was a British-born New Zealand entomologist who loved insects from a young age. His father was a professional artist and taught George illustration.
He left England, aged 14, with his father to settle in New Zealand. His hobby was the study of New Zealand’s insects. He wrote three handwritten volumes describing thousands of species. He published many scientific papers and amassed a vast collection of insects. It is the largest in New Zealand and is in the Museum of New Zealand.
