Gromwell , Wall Germander (used in tanning leather)

22 x 14 cm (8.8 x 5.5 inches).

Also shows Golden Rod (yields a yellow dye), Ground Ivy (was used to preserve malt liquors)

This fascinating antique chromolithograph of plants used in medicine was made in 1877 and comes from a work about medicinal plants by Benjamin Barton and Thomas Castle. Their aim was to give an accurate description of the medicinal plants found in Britain. At the time it was felt many had been forgotten, but in fact could still be of great use. This is an original antique made in 1877, not a reproduction, and is in excellent condition with colors which are fresh and bright.
