The antique artworks measured 9.5 by 6 inches (24 by 15.5 cm) and were made in 1842 by engraving by George Sowerby and were superbly finished with hand painted colors. Sowerby was part of a remarkable family of natural-history illustrators and created some of the best pictures of seashells. This set has all the prints in Sowerby's best work on sea shells.
