Jean Jules Linden (1817 -1898 ) was a Belgian botanist, explorer, horticulturist and businessman.
Linden spent years exploring and collecting plants in South America in the 1830s. He revolutionised cultivation of tropical plants such as bromeliads and orchids. This enabled him to create an exotic plant business empire spanning Europe.
To market and sell his plants, he created a sucessful periodical "L'illustration Horticole". This illustrated and described his plant discoveries. It allowed customers to order his plants. It was an excellent marketing strategy ! As he was so successful, he used some of the best botanical artists.
Here are some of his botanical lithographs for you to choose from. They are original antique from the period 1850-1890.
