John Latham (1740-1837) was an English physician, naturalist and author. His best known work is "A General Synopsis of Birds". This described many new species Latham had discovered in museums and collections.
He named many Australian birds, as specimens of them had recently arrived in England.
The Royal Society made Latham a member in 1775.
