These original antique prints are from The Floricultural Cabinet and Florist’s Magazine, by Joseph Harrison, gardener to Lord Worncliffe of Wortley Hall in England. Botany became a popular recreation in England in the early decades of the 19th century and created a demand for floricultural periodicals. The more important periodicals included Joseph Harrison’s Floricultural Cabinet and Florist’s Magazine. According to Wilfred Blunt in his book The Art of Botanical Illustration, the Floricultural Cabinet ranks alongside William Curtis’ Botanical Magazine, Edwards’ Botanical Register, Maund’s Botanic Garden and Paxton’s Magazine of Botany.
