Josiah Wood Whymper (1813-1903) was an English painter, engraver and illustrator. Examples of his work are in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Much of his work was for The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge in London.
He was expert at illustrating nature, such as dramatic engravings of natural phenomena. The phenomena included aurora, rainbows, water spouts, volcanoes and the mysterious Fata Morgana.
