Love-Lies Bleeding (Amarantus Caudatus)
24 x 16 cm (9.5 x 6.25 inches).
foxtail amaranth (Amarantus caudatus).
Many parts of the plant, including the leaves and seeds, are edible, and are frequently used as a source of food in India as well as in South America, where it is the most important Andean species of Amaranthus, known as kiwicha.
This antique lithograph was made in the 1890s by Edward Step and William Watson. Their work focussed on plants which gave brilliance and charm to the garden, and are some of the best antique botanical illustrations.
The paper is high quality, matt with a subtle creamy tone. The coloring is bright and uses a beautiful range of colors. It is in excellent condition.
