Pacamah of Guiana
16.0 x 10.0 cm (6.3 x 4.0 inches).
This finely detailed engraved print of fish was made in London in the 1840s.
This is a genuine antique engraving, not a reproduction.
It is in very good condition. The original hand painted colouring and detail of the engraving is excellent. Fishing has been a popular pastime for hundreds of years. Many wealthy people in Georgian and Victorian eras were both keen anglers and amateur scientists hence enjoyed comparing pictures of both local and exotic fish species. The publishing company William Home Lizars of London and Edinburgh, made this delightful set of engravings about fish and it was quite popular at the time.
This is a steel plate engraving, on medium weight paper with the image on one side and it is blank on the reverse side. The paper is a creamy tone, slightly darker at the edge.
