Pointer
38 x 26.5 cm (15 x 10.5 inches).
This lovely antique engraving, which is over 120 years old, is from a series of finely detailed engravings of dogs and horses, mainly associated with field sports. They were made in London in the late 1800s by John Scott and are quite rare. Scott was a master at his art as the detail in these engravings is superb. He based his engravings on original paintings by Stubbs, Gilpin, Reinagle, Marshall and Cooper. Anyone interested in dogs will find these engravings of dogs fascinating, as they are some of the earliest images of specific breeds of dogs (most of today's dog breeds were developed via cross breeding within the last 150 years). It is a genuine antique, not a reproduction, and is in excellent condition.
