Glareola nuchalis - newly discovered species
This hand colored lithograph is from an exceedingly rare set published by The Zoological Society of London in 1848 and 1849. The hand painted coloring on this print is outstanding - as good as the hand coloring seen in John Gould's birds. It has shellac finishing which adds lustre to the colours. It is in excellent condition. The beautiful lithographs in this set were drawn by famous artists such as John and Elizabeth Gould, Joseph Wolf, H.C.Richter (Wolf and Richter drew many of the illustrations of birds in Gould's work), Edward Lear and G.B. Sowerby. They were printed by Hullmandel and Watson, who are famous as being the printers of John Gould work on birds.
