Anglesea Morris, Beardless Ophidium and Sand-Launce
This is a large antique engraving by J.W.Lowry after Sir Edwin Landseer and is over 150 years old. Lowry was a well known engraver in Victorian times, and his engravings are beautifully detailed. Sir Edwin Henry Landseer was an English painter, well known for his paintings of animals, particularly horses, dogs and stags. However, his best known works are the lion sculptures in Trafalgar Square.
There is a blind stamp in the top right hand corner of the paper, dated 1854. It does not affect the image and, if you prefer, may be covered when you frame the print. This is an engraving with hand painted water coloring.
