Tapirus indicus de Sumatra. Tapir
This finely detailed antique print was made by steel engraving in 1855. It's from a work by Paul Gervais, professor of zoology at the University of Montepelier in France. The colored ones have original hand painted coloring. The ones with a sepia or grey toned background are also steel engravings with backgrounds made by lithography. It is in good condition. There are a few dots of foxing in the margin (easily covered with a matt when framing).
