In Greek mythology, Ovid tells of a house and sanctuary of drowsy Sleep where Somnus (Hypnos) God of Sleep lies. There, still silence reigns. Within are dreams, taking different forms, as many as the grains of sand. Bernard Picart's engraving shows a beautiful entrance to The House of Sleep. Figures of gods, people, animals hint at variety of dreams.
