Thomas Sadler Roberts (1848-1946) was Professor of Ornithology and Director of the Museum of Natural History at the University of Minnesota.
He commissioned a series of brilliant color illustrations of birds. They were based on paintings by leading bird artists of the day, such as Louis Fuertes. They showed the male and female birds together in beautiful scenery.
