These beautiful prints are by Tom Baril, the famous contemporary printmaker and photographer. Baril said “I strove to achieve the depth and luster of fine vintage prints”. They are from his 1st and limited edition (only 100 sets were created), issued in 2000. Baril used a wizard's blend of photographic and print techniques such as pin hole cameras, solarizing film and unique toning. The results are stunning botanical prints that are both classic and contemporary. The style is reminiscent of Karl Blossfeldt's 1920s photogravures Art Forms in Nature. A graduate of New York's School of Visual Arts, Tom Baril spent fifteen years as Robert Mapplethorpe's master printer. Baril has had many exhibitions world-wide, and his work is in collections from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum.
