Vero Shaw's wrote the famous 'Book of The Dog", published by Cassell in London the late 1800s.
This work was very influential in defining standards for many dog breeds. It included the first color illustrations of many breeds. For example, Irish Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Fox Terrier, Pug, Italian Greyhound, Irish Water Spaniel, Dachshund, Basset Hound and Retriever.
Shaw's beautiful illustrations show many of the dogs in idyllic country settings.
